My first field experience went well. I was introduce to the class and I let Mrs.Glass finish what she was doing. We talked about what the students do during the time i'm there and a little on how each activity they do whether it's in groups or individual; it is accustome to the level they are on!
My second day was pretty nice! I got to help some of the students with their math test and I just monitored the room while some where doing thejr independent work! All the kids are so nice and I can't wait to get to know them better. Hopefully later all I will be able to do more stuff with the kids but right now I just need to get the hang of everything!
11/7 On Monday the kids had a mock election and got to vote for the president they would like i win. There was also little actives the kids could do that dealt with the elections. After that we went back to class to learn math. We were learning proportions and I helped the students who were struggling. The teachers are very patient with the kids when the don't get anything & the lessons plans seem at the appropriate levers for their learing. I'm really enjoying my time with the kids.
11/9 On Wednesday I did an activist with the class dealing with the magic threes for writing. I called on students to share what sentences they wrote and wrote them down on the paper and projected in on the elmo. After languages arts we went to math and continued to work on proportions. They used labels to match the numbers with the correct spot they went in the proportion. The students seem to really like me which is great and I'm glad I'm there to help them.
11/15 On Tuesday the students were working in groups for their reading and vocabulary words. I sat with the group who was reading and when it was time to switch I sat with the students who were reading and helped them finish their book. Then we move to our vocabulary words which were comping words. They wrote them down and we went over their definitions. In math we were still on proportions and we were using labels again to help match the numbers with the correct label. The students get the information when they focus and learn and they aren't afraid to ask for help.
11/17 Thursday I came in and the students were working on newsela which is a website with news articles and then have a quiz at the end to test their comprehension. The students were fine on their own so I put binders together for the students to keep their graded work in. During math they were taking a quiz and I helped the students who needed the help.
Today in class the students were working on their Writes Rights. I walked around the class and helped any student who was struggling. One student had their phone out so Mrs.Glass gave them a warning and told them to put it away. The students did not have time to start their next assignment on the computer since the internet was not functioning. So the class go ready for math. In math the class started an activity focusing on the numbers in today's date (1,3,2,0,1,7). They had to use those six numbers and PEMDAS to get them equal to 1 to 100. The activity seemed so cool that I asked Mr. Forman for a paper and stated to work on it. Tomorrow we will be going over to see who got the most.
12/13: On the thirteen of December the class was working on their narrative essays. They were all working on the computer typing up great fictional stories about how they got a superpower. I sat at the back table with a few students in case the needed assistance with writing. Mrs.Glass was monitoring what they were writing since they all had to share their document with her. All the students were working hard until it was time for math. In math the students were working on decimals, fractions, and percents. They went over their homework and began to work on problems in their books.
12/14 When I walked into class the students were again working on their essays, as they needed to get done because it was soon going to be due. Mrs.Glass had to raise her voice slightly as some students were fooling around and not getting their work done. When they went to math they were taking a test so there was not much I could do.
12/20 On the twentieth of December I got to teach one of the two groups for reading. We recaped on a book they already read and I taught them how to outline the book. There are only three to a group and they all took turns reading the assign pages I told them; I was following along with them as well. Outlining the book took up most of the time and we had to stop to go to math. I thought that instructing a lesson for my first time went very well as I got to look over the stuff a few nights ahead and I am very comfortable with the students.
12/21 On Wednesday I got to teach the other reading group. We read the book out loud and took turns reading a page. We also recapped on the last book they read. This group had to answer three questions dealing with the book they read. They wrote their responses in paragraph form in their notebooks. This also took up most of the time and went to math after we were finished. My second time teaching went a little smoother to me since I had taught the day before and I had a better idea on how to teach them. Mrs.Glass was glad I got to teach the kids and taught they both went well. I am glad the kids are comfortable with me teaching them.
1/12: On Thursday I had my formal lesson. I lead a small group of students with reading a book. As they took turns reading the book we paused and relfected on what we read. I had to improvise on my lesson because the lesson i wrote for the students could not be executed since the students did not get a chance to read the book the day before. I thought the lesson went very well and I am glad the students enjoyed the book.
1/17: Today when I came into Mrs.Glass's class the students were finishing up grammar. Then they went on to the computers to read an article of their choice from newzela. There wasn't much for me to do as the kids were doing independent work and Mrs.Glass was testing kids on reading. In math the students were learning how to add and subtract with different signs in front of the numbers. Since this is a new topic Mr.Foreman was going over the material and I was just making sure the students were paying attention.
1/18: Today the students were doing the same thing as yesterday; Mrs.Glass is finishing up testing some students and the rest are working on their language art bingo boards. I have been monitoring the room to make sure the students stay on task and are getting their work done. The class is very quiet which is a good sign. In math the students are continuing with adding positive and negative numbers. I was helping the students with their work and answering any questions they had while working on their assignment.
1/19: In class today the students began to prep for their mid term essay. The students were writing down their ideas for their essays on a graphic organizer which they can use to help them for the actual essay. Mrs.Glass is absent so the class is again quiet and getting their work done. In math Mr.Foreman is still teaching them how to add with opposite sign numbers. The students are doing problems to practice and are getting ready for the mid term as well.
1/20: On Friday Mrs.Glass still was not in school, so there was another sub in for her. They were working on a grammar packet when I came in. After finishing the packet they began to finish up their mid term narrative essay organizer. The class was well behaved with Mrs.Glass being absent and worked well with the sub. In math they continued to prep for the final as well.
1/24: Today was my last day of my field experience. The students were taking their midterm for language arts and I was reading the questions and answer options to one student to help her. All the students made me cards and Mrs.Glass got me a cookie cake and brownies for the whole class to eat. It was so sweet of all of them to do that for me. I told Mrs.Glass that I still want to keep coming and she was so happy as well as all the students! I can not wait to keep going back until the school year ends. In math the students were doing their daily warm up than they were finishing up their math study guides for their midterms.
I'm very excited to see what this field experience has to offer me!
