Today in Mrs. White's class I introduced myself to all the students of class. They also introduced themselves to me. They all told me about themselves such as their names, age, hobbies, and future goals. We talked about their views on the class and I saw how some students gave a little more effort then others. I feel that sharing information to me was a little uncomfortable at first because they all just met me. It seems as if some students take time to process information but others seem to be wondering off or just don't care. We also talked about voting and the requirements needed to vote in your state.
In class the students continued learning about voting by discussing the presidential parties and who was running in each of them. We also went to the music room to see Kyle play the drums for the whole. He was very nervous and afraid of everyone cheering loudly so after he performed we shook our hands high in the air which was called a quiet cheer to cope with his fear of loud noises. I feel that to some extent each student has a fear of speaking or perform in in front of big crowds. I think this due to being in one classroom all day and not really interacting in bigger groups.
Mrs.White was absent today we had Mr. Parker as a substitute and we watched a movie called "Front of the class' which is a bout a kid who has turrets and grows up wanting to become a teacher. Mr. Parker handed out a worksheet and as they watched students filled out the answers. It seemed as if only two or three of the students were truly interested in the movie and there was some chatter going on during the movie, and some students seemed to be bored with it. It seemed one student was bored so he asked to use the bathroom to escape the evniorment. One girl was laying across the chairs while watching the movie and nobody said anything to her. At the end of class we talked about some of the elements of the movie and how they saw the character struggle and how they felt about it.
I would ask the girl to sit up properly because it is distracting and tell her how siting up shows that you are more focused and oaying attentin and it show interst in what is going on. To get the class more engaged I would pause them movie more often so the whole class could discuss and ask more questions based on how they fel about what isgoing on then questions that reiterate what happened in the movie.
In the beginning of class a lot of the students were talking an walking around the class until Mrs.White came back. One kid was calling the others names and they were asking him to stop but I am not sure if he is unable to understand how they were feeling because the teachers were not paying attention. We started to talk about what we saw in the movie previously and reviewing some of the information. The classroom enviorment changed from when the sub was here to when Mrs.White being in class. Mrs.White definetly has more control over the class and they seem more engaged when she is around. The students today were actualy payong attention to the movie and they seemed to like the movie more. One student actually asked some questions about the movie and Mrs.white explained what was happening. The main character got an award and the whole clas started cheering which show how intersted the movie was to them and I enjoyed the movie as well.

ReplyDeleteHow would you have handled the girl laying across the chairs? How could you have gotten the girls to be more engaged in the lesson?
