Today was my first day at the field experience. I was very nervous but, excited at the same time. I met all the kids today and they were so friendly and polite to me. I figured their names and really looking forward to work with them.
On the second day of my experience we went to get the kids at the play ground and after coming back from playground they had to finish their incomplete tests. So, while they were finishing their tests me and Mrs. Calderone starting grading their work and while grading I came across a funny paragraph that a kid had wrote for their friend and I really liked it. I hope I get to learn many more as the days go on.
I didn't do as much today because the students had to take a test and they took the whole time I was there. While the students were taking their tests Mrs. Calderone had started grading the other day tests. By looking at their grades which were horrible Mrs. Calderone had decided to give them a optional test which will average with the other test.
When I entered the class Mrs. Calderone still had testing going on with the kids. During the end most of them were almost finished when they started working on their brochures. The brochures were about the cities they want to visit or their dream place. Me and Mrs. Calderone started reading the personal narrative stories they wrote on tests and they quite interesting and really cute.
11/15/16 We started the class after the kids came back from the playground. After they were back we started with going into groups. Mrs. Calderone took 6 kids to the back of the room to read with her while, I was to help the rest of the students with their grammar worksheets. The kids had wonderful questions about the worksheets and I was really glad that I had answers to all of them. When I was helping them I noticed that most of the kids didn't know the meaning of timid and attempt and those two words gave them a hard time with the whole worksheet.
11/17/15 When we got back to the class Mrs. Francis told me read the book me first to the kids as they were getting mean to each other while coming back from the playground as everyone wanted to be first. While I was reading to them they realized that being the first is not always good. After reading about the book we started doing some of the math work which by looking was hard for them.
11/21/16 We got back to class from lunch and Mrs. Calderone had told me to do key chains for the honor roll and high honor roll students. The students with honor roll got crown key chains and the ones with high honor roll got a A+ key chain. After that we did the science worksheet which explained them about the circumference, diameter, mass, and height of a rock. After doing the worksheet they had to balance the rock with other materials and after balancing had to add up all the numbers to get the mass of the rock and it was a really fun activity for the kids.
12/1/16 The children were doing their math homework when we came back from lunch. So, Mrs. Calderone had me grade their math tests and their reading logs. When I was doing their math tests I figured out that they were having many problems on the last page which was about fact family. When I was done grading the rest of it I told Mrs. Calderone about the problems and she asked me what I should do. For my suggestion I told Mrs. Calderone to get them a worksheet and replace that with the last page of the test. I felt really happy that she asked for my opinion and she actually told me to find a worksheet for them that is related to the test.
12/13/16 Today, I got my license and when I went to fountain woods and told Mrs. Calderone she told me to spread the happiness in the class. So, I told all the kids that I got my license and they were really happy for me and asked me all type of questions like when I am going shopping? and all type of funny questions. After the mini questioning session they had to start making their Christmas presents for their parents and when I went there Mrs. Calderone told me that they are making frames to hang it up on the christmas trees. I was glad to help them and they were glad to have me help them.
12/14/16 Today the class was doing a science experiment. They had put a rock into vinegar and saw if the vinegar evaporated. Since it was too cold the vinegar did not evaporate at all and we had to clean up the containers. When we were back the kids said the room smells like poop and we did a trip around the school so we fill better and pretty much that's all we did for the time I was there.
12/15/16 We did science again and they had to look at all different types of rocks that the teacher passed out. There was this one rock that was really cool to the kids and the rock and chip itself and it can heal by itself too. I found it cool too as I had never seen a rock like that. By looking at the rocks the kids had to define the volume, mass, height, and diameter of the rock. Since the kids did not know what diameter meant Mrs. Calderone had me help them measuring the diameter.
12/19/16 We didn't do much today after coming back from lunch as the kids had to take a test and while they were taking a test me and Mrs. Calderone graded their homework and quizzes.
12/20/16 We had to start making the sticker books for all the special kids. Cadence's mom was taking the class kids to the special kids So, all the kids decided that they would bring something for the kids. Me and Mrs. calderone made a list and emailed their parents if they would contribute to the class. Some of the parents replied immediately and said they would be more than happy to do this. And that is how the class was able to manage everything by the parent's help.
12/21/16 The kids were very happy that they had their winter break starting. We finally wrapped all the presents and the kids wrapped some of their presents. We had a chill day and the kids were excited to show the gifts to their parents.
1/3/17 When I got there we had to language arts and that was all we did for the majority of the time and then later on we answered the questions regarding the passage. Me and Mrs. Calderone discussed about our lesson that I was supposed to do tomorrow. She gave me some tips on how to manage the kids and hoe to make eye contact during my lesson.
1/4/17 Today, I was very nervous as I was getting observed. For my lesson I did division by 3. I started teaching when Mrs. Francis came in and I was just smiling the whole time when I was teaching as I did not want to make obvious that I was nervous. During my lesson the kids asked me amazing question which was good for me lesson and I was pretty happy that my lesson went by as I had planned
1/5/17 When I went there all the kids were asking me about what I got on my lesson plans. After a short discussion we were back at the school lessons and this time we did math again and found out about family facts and how they are related to each other. And after that we went into small reading groups in which they had to read out loud and then I asked them questions regarding the story.
1/10/17 Today, the kids had a grammar test and it was about word sorts and what word sorts mean. During that time Mrs. Calderone told me to make some copies which was their next test and I was sad for them as they had to take 2 tests at the same day.
1/12/17 When we went to class after lunch. The kids took their anthology books out and read a story about past and how people used to deal without cars or cellphones and kids had an amazing reaction to that as how they would go to places without cars and talk without cellphones. After that they had to write a short story on what they think was going ti happen after that and then read the remaining of the story.
1/17/17 Today the kids had a walk around the school instead of playing in the playground. After a nice walk around the school the students were back to the class to learn new things. They learned division by 8 and how you have to remember the multiplication tables in order to learn division. When they were learning division they had a lot of problems as the number were bigger and it was getting hard for them to learn at that level.
1/18/17 The kids had a fun activity where they had to make sunshine t-shirt. But they weren't actual t-shirt it was just a piece of cloth that Mrs. Calderone bought. The kids had cardboard, white cloth, flour, empty ketchup bottles, fabric spray paint, and a spray bottle. I found that activity pretty interesting as they used flour to absorb the spray paint so it doesn't flow down.
1/19/17 On the way getting back from lunch Mrs. Calderone told me that there is a lot of grading she has to do. After getting back from lunch she gave me a whole pile of papers to grade and I was glad to do the grading as the kids wrote lovely open ended responses.
1/21/17 When I went today I realized that my field experience was going to over in 1 day. So, I was a bit sad and even there were 2 kids in the class who were going on a vacation and the class gave me a lovely card which had all the memories I had with them I was glad to be there and really happy that I took this class and went to my field experience.
