  1. My first day going into the classroom I was nervous because I knew nothing about the teacher or the class. Mrs. McCormick was super nice and I was in a kindergarten class, I didn't know the age group until I got there but I am very happy that is what I got. There was also another teacher in the room Ms. Jenalle. After the students finished up their social studies, all the children sat on the carpet and she introduced me to the class as Ms. Chelsea. After that they broke into stations and I help the group on the rug with puzzles. Later on during their snack Mrs. McCormick and I talked more she explained to me their schedule and everything.

    1. Make sure your journals are more reflective. What was the purpose of the puzzles? Was there an educational purpose? Could a different activity serve the same purpose?

  2. The second day, I helped a different group during stations, they had to use a spinner with 5 different objects on it either starting with the letter A,B,C,D, or E. Along with that was a worksheet with boxes and A,B,C,D,and E at the bottom. They took turns flicking the spinner and what ever it landed on they had to color the correct box of the letter the picture started with, they had to keep coloring up like a bar a graph. The children knew the objects and what letter it began with they didn't really need much help from me. This helped them with sound and letter recognition, and how a bar graph works.

  3. The third day, stations were a little different because they were getting pulled out to "vote". After they all voted I helped make the tally marks for who they voted for a duck or a farmer. We asked them to count the tally marks and say who won. Then while the children had snack I helped a child that just came from china two weeks ago practice saying the alphabet, an object that started with that letter, and the sound it makes. This is to help him with his English, because he just repeats what other children say and he speaks Chinese at home.

  4. Day 4: It was raining so the children had free play inside instead of going outside, so that took away from stations. But they worked on a math worksheet after and I had to help a small group of three of the slower children. It was about six little boxes, in each box their were two different items they had to count each item and write the number on the line, then circle the greater number. This helps them with number skills, counting, and number order.

  5. December 1st, This was like any other normal day, I came during stations and I helped a boy named Zachary do a math puzzle. It was all the numbers in order going up to 100, one side had the numbers in the slots, the other side was blank. So I helped him with the blank side put all those numbers in order. He did a pretty good job knowing where things went by himself and started seeing a pattern with the numbers. This helps good memorization skills and also counting skills

  6. December 13th, The children were coloring ordainment's to hang on the tree. They learned about a Mexican flower and that is what they made into an ordainment. I helped Jayden work on his alphabet book, so he worked on the letter "m". The different activities made him repeat the letter and the sound and to pick out words that start with that letter. This book is to help him recognize his letters better, he was behind in his book so I helped catch him up. I like giving Jayden one on one help because I feel like I am teaching him something.

  7. December 14th, Today during stations I conducted a new station by myself with four children. It was a writing activity, it was a worksheet with three rows of boxes. The row was filled down with their sight words like "he, she, the, can, go". First they have to read the word and say it. Then the second column they have to write the word, and the last column they can use the letter stamp and ink pad to stamp the word. This is a good activity to get them to remember and know their site words.

  8. December 15th, This day they had computers so I couldn't really do anything but sit in the back and watch. They learned a little bit about coding and did a coding game. They had to move things with the arrows that was moving something so it counted as coding.

  9. December 19th, I conducted the writing station again with the stamp it activity. This time was a different set of children. Some needed a little more direction then other. They were more excited and in a rush to do the stamps I had to redirect them to read and write the word first.

    1. This day made me feel happy, because I enjoyed seeing all the children having fun, dancing, laughing, and smiling. It was a good way to start Christmas break!

  11. January 1st, The first day back from break the children had computers. I sat in the back of the class, they got to play any game they want. I don't like going to computers with them, because I never get to help them with anything.

  12. January 4th, We went to the library, the librarian read the children a book about exploring, and told them what it means to explore, and also they got to look at a globe. Usually when they go to the library they return their books and check out new ones, but because the internet was down they couldn't check out new books. They did get the chance to look at some new book maybe for next time. Two children asked me to read them a book, I was more then happy to, because I love reading children's books. I also encouraged one child to read a book to me so they could practice reading.

  13. January 5th, I helped with the stamp it activity at the writing station. Even though I enjoy doing this and help a small group, they don't need much help. When I explain the directions once they understand it and can do it, so I see them and watch them do it. This time they finished early so I told them to write a sentence using a site word on the back of the paper. This is so they can get practice using their site words in a sentence, spelling, writing, and knowing a proper sentence structure.

  14. January 10th, Today was my formal lesson. I read the class a book called "The Grouchy Ladybug" , then had them do a follow up activity by filling in the blank sentence "I get grouchy when I...." we went over times they may feel grouchy before hand, and what it means to be grouchy. I wasn't scared to do my lesson because I have had some experience, I was just a little nervous because I wanted to do great, and I wasn't used to being in charge of the whole class. I feel as though because I was nervous I wasn't as comfortable and loose with the students as I could have been. Also when they were talking I was a little scared to try to take control just because I never done it with them before, like I know different methods but I wasn't sure if I should do it so I just let it die down. Overall I think my lesson went well, I didn't mess up, and the children understood the concept and enjoyed it as well.

  15. January 12th, The class started a new little project making lizards and igloos. During stations is when they all took turns making one or the other, this was going to take the whole week. I helped students make the lizard in a small group during stations. They had to cut a lot, then glue all pieces together. The boy was made from the letter "L" because Lizard starts with the letter "L".

  16. January 17th, During stations I conducted the lizard making group again. I enjoyed watching the children cut all those pieces out because they are at all different cutting skill level, and pace. Some cut better then others, and some take a longer time then others. One boy Jason was rushing just to be done first and his cutting was very bad and sloppy, Mrs. McCormick told him that was not acceptable and that he could do better then that. Jason was a little upset so I told him it wasn't a race to see who could get done first, and that we want them to all have the best lizards they can make even if it means taking a longer time to cut properly.

  17. January 18th, Today was the last day of making lizards because they were the last group of students who didn't get to make a lizard yet. I was happy it was the last day making lizards, because It got boring sitting there just watching them cut. I didn't want to talk much, because I did not want to distract them from cutting.

  18. January 19th, Instead of stations today, Mrs. McCormick had a different activity planed for the children to do. She let me read the class a book called "Monster Mama Loves Me", I didn't mind reading it because I liked reading them stories and I was good on asking questions on spot through out the book. They loved it so much they asked me to read it again and again. But they went back to their seats and Mrs. McCormick gave them further instructions on their activity. It was another cutting activity, they had to make their own monster but it was out of Valentines day colors, and the eyes were heart shaped. They had to cut out all the pieces of their monster and put it together how they wanted it, but following Mrs. McCormick's guide lines.

  19. January 20th, Today was an other computers day. They got to color a snowman picture online, but I got to help students the first part of class. Usually she has them signed in already and has her webpage up for the children, but today she walked them through how to sign in themselves and how to get on her webpage, which I thought was pretty cool for kindergarteners to do learn that. A lot of students needed help along the way so it make it easier on the teacher I went around the class and helped students as well.

  20. January 24th, The last dayyyyyy, I was so sad. I don't want to leave that class and my students. Today when I came in they were finishing up drawling they made for me saying "I love you Miss Chelsea" or "I will miss you". One girl got frustrated and started crying because she didn't know how to draw me. I went over and told her that what ever she made for me or however she made me I would love it and that the picture was perfect, that made her happy and stop crying. Then they moved on to another cutting activity, making a Beaver out of a "B" just like their "L" Lizard.
